News Russian-Kazakhstan Joint Venture to Build Nuclear Plant in Mangystau

Mr. Mazhit Sharipov, Director of Kazakhstan's Atomic Energy and Industry Department has said that Kazakhstan and Russia have set up a joint venture for the construction of a nuclear power plant in the Mangystau region.

"Our task is to build the nuclear power plant, diversify our energy resources and achieve a 20-percent share for our atomic energy sector in the republic's total energy industry," he said.

Kazakhstan is the world leader in terms of uranium output.
