News Krygyzstan fears prospects for hydroelectric projects

Kyrgyzstan is concerned that Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan may block proposals for its cooperation with Tajikistan on hydroelectric power at a forthcoming confernce on the Aral Sea. Both Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan are downstream of the proposals which would affect the Amu Darya and Syr Darya rivers. However Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan are expected ot sign an agreement on sharing water and energy during the forthcoming agricultural season.
