News Kazakhstan ratifies Kyoto Protocol

The President of Republic of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev signed the law “On ratification of Kyoto Protocol to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change” on 26 March.

Kazakhstan will implement regulations of the Kyoto Protocol via the Clean Development Mechanism, which allows non-annex 1 parties to realize greenhouse gas reduction projects for the account of annex 1 parties.

According to experts’ forecasts, ratification of the Kyoto Protocol will attract about $150-300 mln of investments to the Kazakhstan economy in the next two years, and $500-600 mln by 2012.
