News Direct Gas Supplies from Turkmenistan to Ukraine are possible

President Viktor Yuschenko has said the restart of direct natural gas supplies to Ukraine from Turkmenistan is possible with achieving multilateral interstate agreements.

Viktor Yuschenko believes the sequence in the implementation of the task of restart of direct gas supplies from Turkmenistan should be similar to the sequence of phases of the creation of the Euro-Asian Oil Transport Corridor.

Political agreements should be achieved at the first phase.

"Here we need to decide a task we have decided in the shipment of the Caspian oil. We formed a political union first. Then we formed an interstate corporation, and the feasibility study was drawn up... [the implementation started] at the corporate level after that," Yuschenko said.

In his opinion, in addition to the Ukrainian initiative, the position of European countries will be of priority importance for the restart of direct supplies of natural gas from Turkmenistan.

As Ukrainian News earlier reported, Bohdan Solkolovskyi, the envoy of the president of Ukraine for the international questions of energy security, believes the restart of direct natural gas supplies from Turkmenistan in 2015.

Ukraine has not had direct gas contracts with Turkmenistan since January 2006.
