Association Agreement talks prove strong EU commitment to Armenia
The launch of negotiations on an EU-Armenia Association Agreement "demonstrates the European Union's strong commitment to strengthening its relations with Armenia and the region more generally", High Representative for Foreign Affairs Catherine Ashton has said in a message to mark the event.
"I firmly believe that by strengthening relations between the EU and Armenia, we contribute to the country's democratic development, help secure its long term stability, build prosperity and eradicate poverty," she said, underlining the EU's strategic interest in stability, prosperity and the development of democracy in its Eastern neighbourhood.
In the last week, the EU has launched negotiations on Association Agreements with all three South Caucasus countries, Georgia (15 July), Azerbaijan (16 July), and Armenia (19 July).
