News Armenia to start importing gas from Iran

A new pipeline will shortly bring gas to Armenia from Iran, reducing the country's dependence on the Russian Federation. Following a 2004 agreement, the pipeline was completed at the end of 2008. Initial daily volume will be about 2 mn. cu. m., rising to 4mn. cu. m. by 2011. Future possible projects between the two countries include a hydro-electric plant on the R. Arax on the border of the two countries.
